Built for food and drink
Whatever you've opened, the cover is shaped around how your venue actually runs.
What goes wrong in a new venue
None of it is dramatic. All of it is expensive.
A kitchen fire
Fryers and flues are the single biggest cause of serious loss in a food business. One fire can take out the fit-out, the stock and the trade at once.
A customer slips
Wet floors, tight service areas and busy nights. A public liability claim from one injured customer can run well into six figures.
The freezer fails overnight
Fresh and frozen stock spoils in hours. Deterioration cover pairs with your stock sum insured so you're not swallowing the loss.
You can't trade for a fortnight
Flood, fire or a supplier failure closes the doors. Business interruption keeps the income coming in while the rent still goes out.
How it works
Tell us about the venue
Six short steps: the business, your kitchen and cooking, service and delivery, the premises, security, and the cover you want.
We search the market
A panel of specialist insurers, not a single take-it-or-leave-it price from a comparison site that doesn't understand fryers.
We call you back
A named broker talks you through the options in plain English, and tells you what you don't need as readily as what you do.
You're covered
That same broker knows your account and stands with you if you ever have to claim. No call centre, no starting again each time.
What the package covers
Pick and choose. Leave anything you don't need at zero, and these are the sections we'll quote for.
Trade contents & fit-out
Furniture, fixtures, kitchen equipment and the tenants' improvements you've paid for on a leased building.
Stock, including fresh & frozen
Split by type, with deterioration cover for when a freezer or chiller gives up overnight.
Business interruption
Keeps income coming in if you can't trade. You pick the indemnity period: 12, 24 or 36 months.
Public & products liability
£1m to £10m limits, covering both customers on your premises and the food you serve them.
Employers' liability
Legally required the moment you take on staff, even part-timers. £10m statutory minimum.
Money, transit & signage
Cash in the safe and in transit, deliveries in your own vehicle, plus external signs, canopies and awnings.
Common questions
We haven't opened yet. Is it too early?
No, and it's the right time to ask. Cover can start from the day you take on the lease or the keys, which is usually well before your first customer walks in. Fit-out and stock are at risk long before you trade.
Do I need employers' liability if it's just me and family?
Usually yes, once anyone works for you who isn't a director-owner. It's a legal requirement with a fine attached, and close family members aren't always exempt. Ask us and we'll tell you straight.
What if my food hygiene rating isn't scored yet?
That's completely normal for a new venue and it doesn't stop you getting cover. There's a "not yet assessed" option in the form, so just pick it and carry on.
How long does the quote take?
About five minutes online. You don't have to finish in one sitting, and if you'd rather talk it through, call us and we'll fill it in with you.
Do I have to buy anything?
No. The quote is free and there's no obligation. If we can't beat what you've got, we'll say so.
